YMCA of Greater Seattle Kid Zone Counselor in Shoreline, Washington

Overview

Job Summary

Every day hundreds of children utilize our Kid Zone drop in child care centers within our membership facilities, engaging in activities and building new relationships with our staff and other participants. You will be part of an amazing staff team who provide enrichment and safe supervision, teach teamwork and social skills, and support children as they grow and learn. You will be able to develop and implement program activities while also building positive relationships by providing prompt and courteous service to members, participants, and guests.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health, safety and to provide a positive experience for each child.

  2. Implements program activities. May be asked to assist in planning activities.

  3. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  4. Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent information about their child’s experience and to promote upcoming programs.

  5. Ensures that toys and equipment are clean, safe, set up and stored properly.

  6. Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.

  7. Other duties as assigned

You are comfortable with individual and groups of children, can talk to and partner with parents and other adults, and have an interest in and aptitude for learning new ways to work with kids. You have an eye for quality programing and can build a sense of belonging with the groups you work with.

Qualifications

You are at least 16 years of age and have:

  1. Six months or more previous experience working with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching.

  2. Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.

  3. Experience planning and implementing group activities preferred.
