Thank you for your interest in working for the YMCA and our Youth Development positions. The YMCA has hundreds of families and children utilize our membership facilities, engaging in activities and building new relationships with our staff and other participants on a daily basis. You will be part of an amazing staff team who provide enrichment and safe supervision, teach teamwork and social skills, and support children and families as they grow and learn. You will be able to develop and implement program activities while also building positive relationships by providing prompt and courteous service to members, participants, and guests.
Youth Development Staff, Family Sports and Recreation Programs include but are not limited to-
Kid Zone Counselor (Drop in child care at the branch and family programs)
Recreation Instructor (Rock Climbing, Gymnastics, Teen Programs)
Due to the current branch closures in response to the COVID-19 crisis we are not actively hiring for these roles.

Supervises a group of children to ensure their health, safety and to provide a positive experience for each child.
Implements program activities. May be asked to assist in planning activities.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent information about their child’s experience and to promote upcoming programs.
Ensures that toys and equipment are clean, safe, set up and stored properly.
Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.

Who are you?

You thrive on the energy of groups of children and are ready to jump in and lead activities. You are always stepping up to offer support at the first sign it's needed. You are comfortable with individual and groups of children, can talk to and partner with parents and other adults, and have an interest in and aptitude for learning new ways to work with kids. You have an eye for quality programing and can build a sense of belonging with the groups you work with.
Age requirements and qualifications vary by position.
Minimum qualifications of entry level jobs include:
16 or 18 years of age or older. (depends on position)
Six months or more previous experience working with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching.
Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
Experience planning and implementing group activities preferred.
