Job Summary

As the Resource Specialist you will be planning, implementing and developing academic curriculum activities for groups of youth.Working on a team of educators and YMCA staff to help determine the academic and enrichment focus of your classes. Youwill co-lead Small Group classes consisting of enrichment activities that focus on relationship building, leadership and fun.

This position will work across all three Kent sites - Birch Creek, Valli Kee, and Cascade - Monday-Friday, mid-shift, at least 32 hours/week.

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people’s ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young people’s ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Y’s programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.

YGS will comply with all WA State mandates regarding COVID vaccinations.

All YGS staff in Child Care roles will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID by October 18, 2021. All YGS staff will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID by November 1, 2021 regardless of work location. Religious and Medical Exemptions will be considered at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  1. Developing and implementing appropriate enrichment classes for assigned grade levels.

  2. Preparing classrooms for daily activities and collaborating with academic teachers and teacher’s assistants to ensure that objectives are reached.

  3. Adhering to all YMCA and school district professional expectations and compliance issues.

  4. Creating a positive, achievement-oriented, organized and engaging learning environment.

  5. Communicates with, develops, and maintains positive relationships with youth and families.

  6. Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.

  7. Cohesively work and partner with organizations outside of the Y.

Qualifications

You should be 18 years of age and have:

  1. Current state approved first-aid certification.
    1. Current state approved community CPR certification.
    1. Experience in working with youth the same age as those to be supervised.
  1. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.

  2. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  3. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

  4. Knowledge of Seattle School District Academic Learning Standards for the age group and designated subject area.

  5. Knowledge of core curriculum components of assigned school.

  6. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
