Job Summary

Everyday hundreds of children are welcomed into our fun and engaging YMCA early education programs. Be part of an amazing team of staff who provide a learning environment for children in which they feel secure, comfortable, and important. You will be a part of a nurturing child-centered environment through enrichment and activities while also supporting the child and assigned programs. You will be responsible for the implementation of age-appropriate activities and all classroom plans during scheduled assignment. Assignments will be across multiple programs and require commuting to sites. Site locations include our centers in North Seattle, Bothell, West Seattle and Auburn.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensures implementation of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with Youth Development goals of the YMCA.

  2. Demonstrates flexibility to work across multiple locations and age groups due to substitute/temporary nature of position. Adapts to individual center operations as needed.

  3. Responsible for the quality and completion of program plans to include classroom routine, lesson plan, behavior management and any additional assigned tasks.

  4. Professionally communicates with center management upon arrive for scheduled shift.

  5. Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information with parents/guardians including individual parent communication, newsletters, or incident reports.

  6. Maintains professional relationships with families, facility personnel and the community.

  7. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  8. Ensures that site supplies are maintained and used appropriately.

  9. Ensures developmentally appropriate classrooms included appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.

  10. Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a licensed childcare environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and hours of work will vary between 7:00a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and days are Monday through Friday.

TRAVEL

Travel is required between Early Education centers located in Bothell, North Seattle, West Seattle and Auburn. Placements may be short or long term and employee may work out of a different location throughout their week.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Three or more years of experience with children kindergarten aged and younger.

  • Experience planning and implementing group activities.

  • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values, caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty.

  • This position requires commuting to multiple YMCA sites in Greater Seattle. The successful candidate will need to have access to reliable transportation to meet the business needs.

  • Ability to be flexible to adapt to the changes in the work and schedule.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BA or AA with 30 credits of early childhood education. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered

  • Two or more years of Lead Teacher experience

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English.
