Job Summary

This position will work on-site leading staff during school day and/or after school YMCA programs in the Kent area as school calendar dictates. Responsible for planning and implementing academically and/or extracurricular aligned activities for youth, to include virtual programing. Will have occasional evening or weekend hours required for events, field trips or other enrichment activities. Responsible for attending Equity/Justice trainings, workshops or meetings. Responsible for ordering supplies for enrichment and academic activities. Seeking applicants with a strong desire to enrich, provide and encourage youth to excel in social/emotional growth activities/workshops.

Responsibilities

  1. On site lead staff for after school programming, which include enrichment activities, fieldtrips and mentoring. Serves as support for other YMCA instructors or volunteers.

  2. Plans and implements program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA and partnership agreements with the Enumclaw School District. Coordinate’s activities which fit the developmental needs of youth, which could look like, cooking activities, age-appropriate groups, environmental activities, fieldtrips, etc.

  3. Communicates with school staff weekly or daily as needed, participates in regularly scheduled meeting with school administration. Building relationships with other community-based organizations.

  4. Communicates with, develops, and maintains positive relationships with youth and families. Plans and implements engagement activities for participants.

  5. Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers. Positive role model for youth, volunteers and staff. Works well alone, with a team and has energy to be creative when called upon.

  6. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures. Excellent communication skills with staff on site and supervisor.

  7. Maintains ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of program site. Always keep supplies on hand, will be fiscally responsible with supplies and budget.

  8. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. 18 years of age or older.

  2. Current state approved first-aid certification.

    1. Current state approved community CPR certification.
    1. Experience in working with youth the same age as those to be supervised.
  1. Experience leading other staff

  2. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.

  3. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  4. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

  5. Knowledge of core curriculum components of assigned age group.

  6. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment)

Preferred Attributes and Skills:

  • Experience providing virtual programming.

  • 2-3 years of experience in working with youth.

  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
