Overview

Job Summary

Every day hundreds of children participate in fun and engaging YMCA summer day camp programs. Become a leader the kids follow by joining our team as a Lead Day Camp Counselor.

We are looking for someone who is excited to work in our summer Day Camp as a Lead Day Camp Counselor. Serves as a professional role model for our campers and day camp counselors by leading through example and guiding them through recreational activities that teach life skills, encourage healthy and safe behaviors and create a positive camper experience.

Camp Season runs June 17th - August 30th with some trainings in May and June with shifts ranging from 6:45 am – 6:15 pm.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides supervision, guidance, leadership and direction to Camp Counselors as needed.

  2. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health, safety and to provide a positive experience for each camper.

  3. Plans and implements program activities.

  4. Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their camper’s experience.

  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  6. Ensures that equipment is clean, safe, set up and stored properly.

  7. Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.

  8. Other duties as assigned.

Summer Day Camps include:

  • Kids on Their Way Camp -Grades: Pre-K entering Kindergarten

  • Discovery Camps- Grades K-5

  • Outdoor Day Camp -Grades 1st - 6 th

  • Sports Camp -Grades 1st - 5th

  • Trek Camp -Grades 5th - 6th

  • Quest Camp -Grades 7th – 9

You have an eye for quality programing and can build a sense of belonging with the groups you work with.

Qualifications

You are 21 years of age or older and should have:

  1. 1-2 years of experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching

  2. Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty

  3. 1 year + experience leading others as a lead or supervisor

  4. Demonstrated experience planning and implementing group activities
