Job Summary

The Y is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Family Support Case Aide. This role provides general support for children, youth and their families in the Y Social Impact Center foster care programs. The Family Support Case Aide works closely with and assists caregivers and assigned team members to provide general supervision and support in home and community environments, Parent/Child Visitation Services, and general transportation support.

This is a part-time/on-call position, with a maximum of 25 hours per week. Shift availability is variable, and will generally be weekdays, weekends, early mornings, and evenings as needed depending on the needs of enrolled youth/families.

This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people’s ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Every year, we serve 5,000 children, youth, young adults, and families across King County with programs that aim to strengthen young people’s ability to develop to their fullest potential through four strategies: reducing risk factors; navigating systems towards successful life transition; ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and building competencies and social capital. The Social Impact Center Y’s programs include housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment. Many of the young people we serve have had involvement in the foster care, criminal justice system, and/or homelessness systems.

Responsibilities

  1. Supervise clients in social and recreational experiences, and provide respite to foster parents and caregivers.

  2. Supervise clients in parent/sibling visitation environment. Make decisions to intervene in or terminate visit if necessary.

  3. Make immediate oral reports and follows up with written reports of visitation services (includes reports and billing logs).

  4. Assist youth and young adults with developing independent living skills.

  5. Provide behavior management for youth in home, school, and community settings.

  6. Facilitates service learning opportunities with youth and young adults.

  7. Provides direct client support in emergent and crisis situations.

  8. Ensures clients are transported on-time and safely to & from all scheduled parent/sibling visitations, appointments and other activities.

  9. Reports all critical incidents in accordance with YMCA Incident Reporting Policy & Procedures.

  10. Meets regularly as assigned for supervision and training.

  11. Adheres to YMCA program rules and procedures.

  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least 21 years of ageORmay be between 18 and 21 years of age if enrolled in a social service internship or practicum program with an accredited college or university and can provide sufficient documentation.

  2. High school diploma or high school equivalency course of study (GED/HSEC) with 2 years of directly relevant experience working with children, youth, and families required or a combined education and experience such as: AA in social work or related field with 1 year documented proof of working with childrenORa BA in social work or related field and at least 6 months documented proof of experience working with children. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

  3. Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Certification* (YMCA will assist with upon hire)

  4. Have the skills and ability to work successfully and meet the special needs of children in child welfare care.

  5. Ability to transport self and client(s) in a safe and effective manner, and to meet clients at their home or school. Access to working vehicle and proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required.

  6. Intermediate proficiency with computers, basic Microsoft Office software and case management/client tracking software.

  7. Experience tracking and summarizing data into reports.

  8. Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to details, timelines and follow-through.

  9. Current state approved first aid, CPR and HIV/AIDS training certification.
