Job Summary

We are looking for responsible leaders who are excited by the prospect of developing and leading theoperations of one of our youth education, childcare or enrichment programs. You will be the key player developing ourprogram(s) working with a team to provide the best programing and services to participants.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position will be working in-person at Garfield High School in Seattle Monday-Friday during school hours to oversee our Y-Scholars program.

YGS will comply with all WA State mandates regarding COVID vaccinations.

All YGS staff in Child Care roles will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID by October 18, 2021. All YGS staff will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID by November 1, 2021 regardless of work location. Religious and Medical Exemptions will be considered at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  1. Builds strong, supportive relationships with youth. Provides outreach and follow-up services to students and their families.

  2. Trains, evaluates, and supervises program staff and volunteers in the delivery of all programming. Ensures staff and volunteers meet all YMCA and grant applicable policies and procedures. Provides leadership and development to staff.

  3. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations, schools and agencies related to programs.

  4. Develop, produce, and distribute program information necessary to promote programs, in accordance with branch marketing plans.

  5. Ensure that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA, contract, accreditation, and all relevant regulations and other applicable standards.

  6. Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development evaluations and ongoing training of staff.

  7. Recruit target number of students who meet criteria for programming

  8. Formulates, develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote programs and meet enrollment, budget and strategic plan goals.

  9. Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned program(s). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program(s).

  10. Work in partnership and collaboration with other Y Scholars program directors. develops additional policies and practices as necessary. Advises management on issues and trends related to teens and the community.

  11. Seek to find/plan and implement culturally relevant events and field trips to support and promote appreciation for cultural, linguistic, and racial diversity among students.

  12. Develops collaborative relationships with community youth-serving institutions including schools, youth agencies, parks and recreation, and service clubs. Interprets the YMCA's commitment to youth in the community. Serves as the primary community contact regarding the program(s)

  13. Familiarize and understand contract expectations, continuously develop programming around meeting needs of expectations. Ensures regular program evaluation and uses feedback gathered to develop program improvements

  14. Develop and manage program budget to meet fiscal objectives and oversee the purchases of food and supplies within budget guidelines

  15. Use effective interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative, positive, and effective working relationships with students, school and district personnel, parents/families, and community partners.

  16. Maintain all required records according to YMCA and school district standards, including, for example, grades, attendance, immunization records, registration information, accident reports, discipline records and fire evacuation records.

  17. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required

  18. Participate in Annual Campaign, including activities and special events related to YMCA Annual Campaign fundraiser

  19. Familiarize self with school district guidelines and graduation requirements

  20. Maintain and exercise knowledge of basic college admittance requirements; including but not limited to due dates, SAT scores, population, etc.

  21. Other duties as assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Qualifications

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Become bus certified within 6 months of hire date

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, social services, or a closely related field.

  • Two years or more of related experience, with proven experience in training others.

  • One or more years of experience with staff and volunteer supervision, program development, and budget management.

  • Experience with and knowledge of youth behavior management and child abuse prevention.

  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.

  • Ability to visit sites and community organizations.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
