Youth Development Staff, Family Sports and Recreation Programs include but are not limited to-

  • Teachers, Early Learning and School Age Child Care

  • Lead Teachers

  • Instructor, Before and After School Kid Univiersity Youth Development Program

  • Assistant Program Supervisors

  • Program Supervisors

  • Program Directors

Due to the current branch closures in response to the COVID-19 crisis we are not actively hiring for these roles.

  1. Plans and implements program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA. Coordinates activities which fit the children's developmental needs.

  2. Provides leadership for staff overseeing the activities of several groups of children. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety, and to provide for a positive experience for each child.

  3. Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with families. May conduct conferences.

  4. Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and volunteers.

  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  6. Provides assistance to supervisor and may fill-in during temporary absences.

  7. Maintains ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, cleanliness, and learning environment of site.

  8. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  9. Assists in recruitment of members for the Parent Advisory Group.


Age requirements and qualifications vary by position.

Minimum qualifications of entry level jobs include:

  1. 16 or 18 years of age or older. (depends on position)

  2. Experience in working with children the same age as those to be supervised.

  3. Completion of minimum STARS required training (For Licensed Child Care Positions)

    1. 30 or more college quarter credits in early childhood/child development, or possess an equivalent educational background, or be a certified child development associate preferred (For Licensed Child Care Positions)
  1. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.

  2. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 60 days after employment.)
