YGS seeks a Chief Social Responsibility Officer (CSRO) who will work in collaboration with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to build, launch, and manage the YGS Equity and Justice Center of Excellence, which will educate, advocate and share learning to disrupt systemic racism and achieve equity and justice in YGS and the communities we serve. The CSRO will lead, develop and execute the Association’s social-responsibility plans, which include global excellence, equity, diversity, inclusion, volunteerism, international and local community engagement, and social-responsibility strategies across YGS and its branches and departments. The CSRO develops and deploys tactics to further equity, justice, and social-responsibility strategies, and directs international partnerships and related programs. The CSRO will develop and lead YGS’s strategy to guide YGS and the communities we serve to become anti-racist and build and engage community collectives to disrupt systemic racism, inequities and biases in our region and beyond. The CSRO will develop and execute YGS strategies to weave equity and justice into everything we do and everywhere we do it. The CSRO will lead and manage YGS’s participation on related local, national and international councils, committees, coalitions, etc. The CSRO, in collaboration with the SLT, will provide a clear and actionable strategy to execute on the vision for the organization. In close partnership with the highly collaborative YGS senior leadership team, the CSRO is expected to build upon the organization’s success and origin stories, constructing and fulfilling all assigned financial and operational objectives. The CSRO will be comfortable motivating, communicating, and influencing at all levels and in a multitude of environments. This executive will operate with the highest levels of integrity, honesty, personal standards and ethics.
The position will be based at headquarters in Seattle, WA. Approximately 20 -40% travel is expected.
First screening will be on August 8th.
Lead the development, launch, and management of the YGS Equity and Justice Center of Excellence, to educate, advocate and share learning to disrupt systemic racism in YGS, in the communities we serve, and the public and private-sector organizations that impact the well-being of those communities
Develop and lead YGS’s internal and community-facing anti-racism strategy, and build and engage community collectives to disrupt systemic racism, inequities, and biases in our region and beyond
Develop and execute YGS strategies and actionable plans to weave equity and justice into everything we do and everywhere we do it and to position YGS as best in class in diversity, equity, inclusion, and social responsibility practices, standards, and execution.
Develop, promote and support YGS social-responsibility efforts, including diversity & equity, global excellence, volunteerism, cultural competency, environmental sustainability, building welcoming communities, and anti-racism
Lead and manage YGS’s participation on local, national and international social-responsibility councils, committees, coalitions, etc.
Develop the framework for, and provide leadership in, defining, refining, and communicating YGS’ Social Responsibility, Diversity, and Inclusion focus
Oversee strategy and execution of volunteerism efforts at YGS, including opportunity development, volunteer recruitment, registration & screening, and recognition
Develop and recommend social responsibility strategies for integration into YGS for both long- and short-term objectives; establish and monitor appropriate metrics to measure equity and justice outcomes
Advise and collaborate with senior leadership and branch leadership, regarding the development of specific programs, services, and initiatives to further social responsibility in support of YGS mission, values, and objectives; assist with the development of appropriate evaluation methods and metrics to measure outcomes
Partner with senior leadership, and district and branch executives, to advance the dialogue and impact of YGS social-responsibility areas
Provide leadership and collaborate with Association senior leaders, district and branch leaders, and community leaders in the efforts to:
o establish and maintain community-engagement standards in support of the delivery of quality branch experiences
o reach out, engage and serve underserved communities, including immigrant, native, and newcomer families, within YGS service areas
o increase and sustain community relevance, membership, and volunteer engagement
o ensure that YGS is welcoming to all
Collaborate with Association senior leaders to increase the delivery of consistently high-level, culturally sensitive, and relevant programming in all social-responsibility focus areas
Advise and collaborate with senior leaders and branch leaders regarding outreach strategies to increase the recruitment, retention, and development of volunteers, members, staff, and vendors from underserved community groups within the Association service areas
Champion all Employee Resource Networks/Groups
Direct YGS international partnerships, coalitions, and programs
Represent and promote YGS in the local/Greater Seattle communities; develop productive working relationship with local and state organizations, businesses, and governmental entities; coordinate efforts with other YGS staff engaged in similar activities
Coordinate YGS participation on national committees and councils; serve on YMCA of the USA teams in support of furthering the Y’s Social Responsibility focus areas
Research and evaluate the effect of internal and external influences on YGS Social Responsibility focus to inform short- and long-term strategies and planning
Serve as a social-responsibility subject matter resource for best practices, tools, and practices for YGS staff, volunteers, and community partners
Support the evaluation and development of new program and partnerships, ensuring alignment to YGS strategic goals and mission
Hire and supervise department team members, manage consultants and contractors; develop and manage department budgets
In collaboration with the SLT, fundraise and meet YGS financial targets and other goals and objectives
Consider donating to the annual, capital, and planned-giving campaigns, and inspire giving by others internally and externally

Desired Skills & Experience
Proven track record in leading diversity, equity and inclusion
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, human services, or equivalent (Master’s degree preferred)
Ten or more years relevant experience, including experience in community development and outreach into diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.); financial development; budgeting and financial management; membership and volunteer development
Five years in a non-profit community-based and/or non-government organization (NGO), or comparable experience
General management and curriculum-development experience highly preferred
Intrapreneur with a growth mindset
Proven ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, leaders, volunteers, organizations, municipalities, and other entities, especially those who don’t yet fully align with the YMCA mission and values
Strong, proven communications skills (verbal and written) with sensitive, potentially conflict-provoking information
Demonstrated experience in translating data and analytics into actionable strategies and tactics
Ability to work competently and respectfully across multiple cultures and backgrounds is required; ability to speak any language in addition to English a plus
