YMCA of Greater Seattle Case Manager II, Resource Specialist II in Seattle, Washington

Overview

Job Summary

Supports low-income youth and young adults who may have experience in foster care, homelessness, disconnection from school, juvenile justice and/or other systems in developing the skills to live independently. Provides specialized support to youth and young adults in education, job readiness/employment, housing, or other designated field. Develops strong collaborative community relationships and provides extensive information and referral services. Creates a welcoming and supportive environment at the YMCA.

Accelerator Yis the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle.Each year, Accelerator Y provides housing, behavioral health, foster care licensing, violence prevention, education, and employment to more than 5,000 youth, young adults, and families. Every program aligns with our four strategies: 1. reducing risk factors; 2. navigating systems towards successful life transition; 3. ensuring stability, safety and wellness in times of crisis; and 4. building competencies and social capital.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides specialized services to youth and young adults in education, employment/career development, housing, technology, or other designated field and supports them in achieving their goals.

  2. Build strong relationships with Y program participants to effectively provide quality services.

  3. Develops individualized, strengths-based, youth-driven service plans.

  4. Must understand contract/grant terms and conditions to ensure program outcome requirements are met and services rendered to young adults appropriately.

  5. Researches best practices in field; creates and maintains specialized resource library.

  6. Maintains clear, professional, timely participant contact notes, service plans, progress updates, outcomes, and other documentation in designated databases.

  7. Teaches life skills, job readiness or other subject matter individually and/or in groups, often experientially.

  8. Teams effectively and collaboratively with YMCA staff and/or community partners to plan and facilitate activities, including visits to related resources in the community.

  9. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with funding liaisons, other service providers, businesses and/or educational institutions as related to specialized services.

  10. Supports participant success in key domains such as safe and stable housing, permanent connections to supportive adults, education and employment, health and well-being, and life skills.

  11. May supervise volunteers, interns or national service members (AmeriCorps, etc.).

  12. May assist with program coordination or other activities related to job focus.

  13. Participates in YMCA annual fundraising campaign to engage community members in volunteerism and philanthropic support for the Y mission.

  14. Case Managers are expected to be knowledgeable of the following; philosophies of Housing First, Trauma-Informed Care, Harm Reduction, strength-based approaches to youth work, conflict mediation, conflict de-escalation, supporting LGBTQIA+ identified young people, supporting youth of color, and maintaining healthy boundaries in youth work.

  15. Case Managers practice Motivational Interviewing and serve young people using a Harm Reduction approach.

  16. Interactions with participants are case noted weekly and reviewed by Program Director during quarterly review.

  17. Work directly with landlords in the community to secure housing for young adults. This includes a knowledge of the leasing process and tenant rights.

  18. Help young adults navigate the housing landscape in public markets and working through other housing related barriers.

  19. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work or related field or equivalent experience in social services, Masters preferred.

  2. Minimum two years of experience working with teens or young adults in employment, foster care, group care, housing, education, juvenile justice, anti-poverty, vocational support, mental health, chemical dependency and/or homelessness fields.

  3. Ability to teach effective independence skills for a variety of learning styles and to plan supportive activities.

  4. Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills.

  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  6. Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  7. Ability to transport self and client(s) in a safe and effective manner, and to meet clients at community locations; proof of adequate vehicle insurance coverage is required, or ability to travel to areas without public transportation.

  8. Current state approved First Aid and CPR certification.

    1. Current approved HIV blood borne pathogens training.
    1. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
