YMCA of Greater Seattle Assistant Sports Camp Manager in Seattle, Washington


Job Summary

Every day hundreds of children participate in fun and engaging YMCA summer day camp programs. Lead a team of staff focused on teaching teamwork and social skills, and specific sport skills (soccer, basketbal, track, baseball and flag football). Recreational activities with campers, include but are not limited to sports skills & drills, scrimmages, group work activities, social recreation, and other games and enrichment activities.

You have the ability to oversee a group of children to ensure their health and safety needs are met while continuously providing a positive enriching experience for each child. Assistant Camp Managers will assist in maintaining required records according to YMCA standards, including attendance records, registration information, accident reports and discipline records. You willplan and implement activities and step in as the lead onsite when the Camp Manager is not present.

You'll be part of a team that will travel to 3 branches to deliver camp programming to campers. The areas are Auburn, West Seattle, and Sea-Tac.The programs are located in community parks, schools and other community buildings. Programs use classrooms, multipurpose rooms, gyms, outdoor spaces and take frequent field trips.

Camp Season runs June 17th - August 30th with some trainings in May and June.


  1. Assists in planning and implementation of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA. Assists in developing quality program plans, including activity, behavior and event plans.

  2. Provides guidance, leadership and direction to Camp Counselors as needed. May hire, train and supervise Camp Counselors/volunteers. May assist in conducting staff meetings and organizing trainings.

  3. Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their camper’s experience.

  4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  5. Assists in maintaining required records according to YMCA standards, including attendance records, registration information, accident reports and discipline records.

  6. May provide direct supervision to a group of children.

  7. May coordinate camper transportation and drive as necessary.

  8. May fulfill role of camp health manager (or alternate) by ensuring that site/program meets ACA and program safety and health standards, and by overseeing responses to medical and emergency situations.

  9. Ensures that site supplies are maintained and purchased as necessary.

  10. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  11. May recruits new enrollments.

  12. Other duties as assigned.

Who are you?

You have an eye for quality programming and can build a sense of belonging with the groups you work with.


You are 21 years of age or older and should have:

  1. 2+ years of experience with children, perferred exprience in a camp setting

  2. High school graduate or equivalent.

  3. Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty

  4. Experience planning and implementing group activities

  5. 2+ years experience leading others as a lead or supervisor

If position requires driving:

  • Current Driver’s License with a minimum 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards

  • Maximum one minor violation

  • No speeding violation of more than 20mph over the limit
