We are seeking a talented, community-minded visionary to lead the high-profile Matt Griffin YMCA. Serving Tukwila and the Highline communities from its location in the City of SeaTac, the Matt Griffin branch is situated in one of the most diverse global communities in the U.S. This high-risk/high-reward position is an excellent opportunity for a proven manager and experienced community leader to take the helm of a vibrant and innovative YMCA where we are working today to shape how the YMCA Movement will look for coming generations.
The branch’s 120+ staff and 700+ volunteers manage an annual budget of $3.5M to serve over 18,000 community members annually. The branch is determined to be a safe, welcoming place for the area’s many cultural communities, communities of faith, diverse language backgrounds, LGBTQ communities, immigrants, and residents of all ages. We have a commitment to program innovation so we can continue to meet critical community needs:
Health and fitness programs in a community that currently has relatively poor long-term health outcomes.
School-based programs to provide better access to education opportunities for low-income students and English Language Learners (ELLs).
Meal programs and nutrition classes for children and families with limited access to healthy foods.
Chronic disease prevention classes to help individuals and families address obesity, weight loss, and pre-diabetic conditions.
Aquatics safety programs in a community where many children and adults don’t know how to swim.
The Branch Executive is directly responsible for the operation and strategic management of the Matt Griffin YMCA and its community-based programs, whose deliverables include:
Creation of a strong sense of place for the community where people of all backgrounds, genders, faith traditions, sexual orientations, and cultures feel welcome
Achieving the highest levels of member satisfaction in a health and fitness facility that engages residents from all sectors of the community
Strong leadership from an invested and supportive Board of Directors that reflect the community and the branch’s membership
Measurable impacts on community-level health
Collaborations with education stakeholders in the area to improve educational results, especially among young people facing the most complicated barriers to educational success
A balanced and sustainable business model for the branch’s operations
Cultivation of a culture of philanthropy, volunteerism, and giving back in the community.
A pipeline of strong, diverse staff leaders committed to the YMCA Movement and values-based leadership.
Support and leadership for community-building initiatives in the region
Collaboration with and mutual support of other branches and programs within the South King County region, and the YMCA of Greater Seattle
The branch’s functional work areas include marketing and sales, financial management, community relations, volunteer management, annual fundraising, talent acquisition and support, facility management, and program development. The Branch Executive reports to the South King County Regional VP.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent professional experience) in business administration, human services, or related course of study; Master’s degree preferred.
Demonstrated ability to set vision, develop strategies, and implement through change
Management experience (seven or more years preferred) in a setting with multiple lines of business such as a YMCA or a similarly complex organization; desired experience includes program development, membership operations, customer satisfaction, financial development, budgeting and financial management, evaluation, volunteer development, and staff
A track record of successful data-driven decision making, including calculated risk-taking.
Demonstrated success managing people, innovating programs, and leading organizations through the innovation process to produce strong
Proven success in growing annual fundraising campaigns through cultivation and retention, especially in diverse communities.
Enthusiasm and passion for community work, developing and managing volunteers for the Board, and engaging community leaders from a variety of backgrounds.
Ability to establish and maintain collaborations and partnerships with diverse organizations and A track record of navigating the intersectionalities of diversity and promoting equity.
Excellent verbal and written communication Ability to navigate a variety of communication styles.
Proven sales and marketing ability that has produced long-term, sustained growth and retention.
Excellent time management and organizational
A history of successfully developing staff leaders, and experience with systemic workforce development.
Ability to communicate in languages in addition to English will be highly desired.
