Overview
Job Summary
Every day hundreds of children participate in fun and engaging YMCA summer day camp programs.The Day Camp Counselor serves as a professional role model for our campers by leading through example and guiding campers through recreational activities that teach life skills, encourage healthy and safe behaviors and create a positive camper experience. Be part of an amazing team of staff focused on teaching teamwork and social skills, and support children as they grow and learn. Recreational activities with campers, include but are not limited to, arts and crafts, sports, social recreation, songs, nature hikes, archery, and other games and enrichment activities.
Camp Season runs June 17th - August 30th with some trainings in June with shifts ranging from 6:45 am – 6:15 pm.
Responsibilities
Supervises a group of children to ensure their health, safety and to provide a positive experience for each camper.
Implements program activities. May be asked to assist in planning activities.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
Professionally engages with parents/guardians to provide pertinent program information and share about their camper’s experience.
Ensures that equipment is clean, safe, set up and stored properly.
Attends staff meetings and training programs as required.
Other duties as assigned.

Kids on Their Way Camp -Grades: Pre-K entering Kindergarten
Discovery Camp - Grades K-5
Outdoor Day Camp -Grades 1st - 6 th
Sports Camp -Grades 1st - 5th
Trek Camp -Grades 5th - 6th

Qualifications
You should have:
Prior experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny, coaching. Six months or more previous experience working with children in a camp setting preferred.
Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honest
Experience planning and implementing group activities
