YMCA of Greater Seattle Community Teen Mentor in Kent, Washington


Job Summary

The Community Teen Mentor will be in charge of leading and facilliating teen programs at Birch Creek Youth Center and engaging and encouraging them to come more often to the drop-in center.

You’ll be based at the Birch Creek Youth Drop-In Center in the East Hill section of Kent, Washington. You will be working alongside our community partners in a share space facility with full basketball court, computer lab and kitchen.


Principle Activities:

  • Staying engaged in their academic lives.

  • Build a positve mentor/mentee realtionship with the students.

  • Build a positive realtionship with the families of the students

  • Taking a geniune care about the future and success of the students.

  • Build a sense of community based on empathy and understanding for eachother

  • Lead enrichments and life skill based activities

  • Taking and inputting daily attendance

  • May Drive YMCA mini-bus and taking the student on incentive based trips.

  • Any other work related request given by the Teen Director or Teen Coordinator


  1. 18 years of age or older.

  2. Current state approved first-aid certification.

    1. Current state approved community CPR certification.
    1. Experience in working with youth the same age as those to be supervised.
  1. Experience leading other staff

  2. One year of experience or more in program planning preferred.

  3. Knowledge of culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate practices.

  4. Knowledge of core curriculum components of assigned age group.

  5. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  6. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.

  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment)

If position requires driving:

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Current Driver’s License with a minimum 3 years safe driving experience and a driving record which meets or exceeds YMCA standards

  • Maximum one minor violation

  • No speeding violation of more than 20 mph over the limit
