Day Camp Counselors work with a team of counselors to facilitate an 8 AM to 5 PM program called "Mt. Si Day Camp" for Orcas Island youth ages 6-12. Mt. Si counselors lead traditional camp activities such as arts and crafts, beach time, and active games. They also create programming around a theme that changes week to week and participate in weekly field trips to Orcas Island. Day Camp Counselors are supervised by a Unit Director and perform other duties as assigned.To learn more about working with Camp Orkila and the Y, please visit us online at www.campingandoutdoorleadership.org

The screening process of this job will begin on January 20th, 2021.
Supervises a group of 30-50 day camp participants. Ensures that all campers are accounted for and safe at all times.
Facilitates program activities that are developmentally appropriate and that promote camper skill and character development.
Leads and assists with facilitation of all-camp special events.
Provides leadership and supervision to volunteer teen leadership participants.
Maintains safety and cleanliness standards. Takes special note of individual camper health needs or concerns on a daily basis. Shares cleaning duties with fellow staff.
Communicates personal or camper needs to Day Camp Director in a timely manner.
Maintains equipment in sound and safe order.
Attends staff meetings and trainings.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Other duties as assigned.
18 years of age or older.
Current state approved first aid certification.
Current state approved CPR certification.
High school graduate or equivalent.
One or more years of college preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
Ability to participate in activities that involve rigorous physical activity in an outdoor setting, including, but not limited to hiking, boating, camping, swimming, etc.
Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
