Overview

Job Summary

Directs program development, operations and delivery of the year-round retreat and conference center at YMCA Camp Orkila. Acts as Camp Orkila's Challenge Course Manager.

Responsibilities

  1. Directs the development and delivery of Conference and Retreats programming for rental Groups, Orkila produced programs and Adventure Guide camp-outs.

  2. Recruits, books and hosts the above groups which vary in size from 20-500.

  3. Establishes new program activities and expands program offerings within the community in accordance with the Association and branch strategic plans.

  4. Develops and manages the budgets related to the position. Meets fiscal objectives. Closely monitors revenue and expense.

  5. Performs duties of theChallenge Course manager.

  6. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and supervises assigned staff and volunteers in assigned areas. Provides development and leadership.

  7. Compiles program statistics and provides data and reports as required for assigned program(s). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program(s).

  8. Provides leadership and support for branch management team, annual fund raising campaign, and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.

  9. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies related to assigned programs.

  10. Develops, produces and distributes program information necessary to promote assigned programs, in accordance with branch marketing plans.

  11. Ensures that safety procedures are followed and that all programs are in compliance with YMCA standards, ACA standards all and other applicable standards.

  12. Ensures high quality programs through innovative program development evaluations and on-going training of staff.

  13. Ensures upkeep of related facilities and equipment.

  14. Drives YMCA vehicles including school busses. Has the ability to obtain a CDL with passenger endorsement.

  15. Plays an assigned support role in summer camp operations.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in program area or related field or equivalent education/experience.

  2. One or more years of related experience including staff and volunteer supervision, program development, budget management and fund raising.

  3. General knowledge of assigned program area(s).

  4. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.

  5. CPR and First Aid certifications required.

  6. Experience and demonstrated ability in year-round camp programming and operation. Knowledge of American Camping Association guidelines.

  7. Eligibility to obtain Commercial Driver's License.

  8. Knowledge of computer systems and applications.

  9. Knowledge of family support principles and best practices for family involvement.

  10. Proven experience in training and mentoring others.

  11. Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
