Job Summary
Camp Orkila's Logistics Assistants are the backbone of Orkila’s Teen Expedition Program and a great entry point into the Orkila Expedition Community. A Logistics Assistant plays a leading role in making sure that every participant who spends time in the wilderness – for a night or four weeks – has everything they need to stay safe and comfortable.
Logistics Assitants start and train with Orkila’s Teen Trip Leaders and will have the opportunity to take part in either the sea kayaking or sailing skills trainings. They’ll work alongside Teen Trip Leaders to support Orkila’s Expedition and LDI courses along with the overnight trips offered to every Orkila Traditional Camper. Logistics Assistants run the behind the scenes show, packing food, maintaining Orkila’s equipment and make sure that every trip that spends time away from Camp Orkila is successful. Logistics Assistants are supervised by the Logisitcs Manager and perform other duties as assigned.
The screening process of this job will begin on January 20th, 2021.
Responsibilities
Pack food and equipment for all programs not eating meals in the dining hall
Assure that Outtrip is clean and orderly
Assure that all camp First Aid Kits are fully stocked
Assure proper food storage
Monitor the quality and quantity of equipment returned
Supervise the cleaning of items returned to Outtrip
Assure that all food and equipment is packed accurately and in a timely manor.
Attends staff meetings and trainings
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary. situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Follow procedures as outlined in the event of an incident
Other duties as assigned
All employees must maintain a personal appearance appropriate for their work assignment and the camp environment. Personal appearance should be neat, clean and non-offensive. Hair should be neat and clean. The Camp Orkila dress code will be covered in detail in training.
COMMENTS
The usual camp workweek is six day on and one day off, including training, staff meetings, and maintenance of the camp site and equipment. Employees may also be required to attend camp “overnights”. This summer camp position is “exempt” from minimum wage and overtime regulations.
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Possesses the ability to work closely with others in providing each program the equipment and food support required. Must be able to take direction from the Teen Director Staff and be able to solve problems when necessary. This position requires attention to detail and a customer first attitude.
18 years of age or older.
Current state approved first aid certification.
- Current state approved CPR certification.
- Current state Food Handlers permit.
- Camp or similar experience.
Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
