Job Summary

Every day hundreds of children staybefore and after school in fun and engaging YMCA programs. Be part of an amazing team of staff who provide enrichment & recreation activities, teach teamwork and social skills, and support children as they grow and learn. You will help provide a safe place after school, that is an exciting, with fun filled activities that allow children to reach their fullest potential. This full time role will act as a sub/floater at multiple locations in East King County andrequires travel and flexibility to cover shifts based out of the Central region YMCA locations (West Seattle YMCA, Meredith Mathews YMCA and the University YMCA). Looking for applicants who can drive a mini bus . Must be 21+ in age.

If hired, you will receive a $200 signing bonus (less applicable payroll taxes) after 90 days of employment.

Where you’ll work…

You’ll be based out of one off the 13 branches in our welcoming membership facility that offers programs ranging from health and wellness, to family programs, to child care, to aquatics (access is a staff benefit - swim a few laps before work, take a yoga class, do some laps on the track before you go home, if you like!). The majority of programs for this role are in Seattle Public Schools building. Programs use classrooms, child care rooms, gyms and outdoor spaces.

Responsibilities

  1. Plans and implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.

  2. Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.

  3. May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.

  4. Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.

  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

  6. Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.

  7. May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.

  8. Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.

  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

You should have:

  • 1-2 years’ experience with children; camps, child care, tutoring, nanny

  • Ability to model and demonstrate Y values; caring, respect, responsibility and honesty

  • Experience planning and implementing group activities
